sarrahs review on "water"

This film was very powerful but sad at the same time. Its crazy how some people have to live in other countries. I think that its sad how so many women had to live their lives like that back in India. Its a good thing how over time people and their beliefs change i think that change is a great thing. In this film about the widows in India they had a widow house where the widows lived. You could become a widow at any age cause the marriages are arranged so you could be married and not know who your husband is he could be however older than you. But as a female if your married you wear these two bracelets on your wrist to state that your married. When you become a widow you get your hair cut off as well as your bracelets that state that you are married then you go with all the other widows in the widow house. you can become a widow at any age it does not matter.

The directer of this film still made this movie even though people were angry at her for trying to do this film there were alot of people that did not want her to make this film cause it would make some people look bad. so i think she did the right thing cause i never knew or could ever think that something would ever be happening in this world that i live in.

Water

"Water" I thought this movie was very powerful. I was very impressed by the way widows people lived back in 1938 and still live now in those conditions. Back then woman's used to get married when they were little, and the sad part is that if their husbands die they can't live a normal life. They have to move away from their family, their life's completely change once their husband die. I cant believe what those woman's went through it was a lot.

Anyways this movie taught me many things, i learned that no matter what you are going through is important to be faithful, and hopeful never give up because the end can be enjoyable. I particular recommend you to watch this movie, is amazing.

water, was a huge eye opener and painful for others.
to see how women go though these types of conditions on a daily bases.
while some of us here are more consumed with what color our hair is, and when can we go shopping. It literally sickens me. to see how people can treat there kids like cattle instead of like a human. telling them when to sit, stand, beg ,or go find away to make money for who you may call your mother figure.
Chuyia was very young when her life was already chosen for her.By the time she was seven she was married to a man that she may have never seen before. the cause of his death is not mentioned, but it landed her in a widow camp. full of women who also lost there husbands as well.
she was unaware of where she was and that she had to live under harsh laws from there head leader DiDi. who is a very selfish, low down, disgusting, and cold hearted excuse of a women.
Also while living at this place she has befriended two of the women another named DiDi and Kalyani. As she sees the true nature of the world that she lives in. The lady DiDi acted as a mother figure to help her along this life.
It was hard to watch this movie. it really was cause i have gone through alot of the same situations that Chuyia faced. i would recommend this movie to alot of people, cause i beleive that this video might change your look out on life.
Water is a very touching film.
Chuyia is interesting and deep character. Being a widow so young and thinking your family will come back to get you from the widow home must be hard.
Kalyani, the only one with long hair helps chuyia feel comfortable in the widow home. Kalyani goes through so much being sent across the river for Didi to get money for the widow home.
Narayan, the guy Kalyani wants to marry is very curious and you can see he is very strong in his beliefs.

I liked the movie water because it shows you how much people can go through no matter how young. It was very touching to me that Shakuntala, was willing to help....

Water Review

Water was a very touching movie. I really enjoyed learning about a new culture. The story takes place in India in a time when women were taken to a place where if their husband had passed they would have their hair cut off, wear only white clothing and be known as "widows". They can't be remarried or really do anything, so pretty much their lives are taken from them completely.
The plot of the movie was based around three main characters whose names are Chuyia, Kalyani, and Narayan. Chuyia is a young girl of about seven or eight. She was sent to live in the house of widows where Kalyani the "whore" of the house was practically the only one who made her feel comfortable. Kalyani went on to marry a Gandhi follower (Narayan) who didn't believe in the old laws.
I thought the characters were very well thought out, and so was the story line. The only real problem i had with the film at all was the ending. I thought it was unfinished and it left me wondering.
Overall, i felt the film sent a good message, but i was rather disappointed with the ending. I recommend to anyone who is interested in learning about the India culture.

water review

uh.. the movie water was pretty alright. eh, i liked what the movie was about and the message of the movie. it seemed real and the music and the language they were speaking kept me interested. heh heh.. umm.. but it was pretty weird. they wore no shoes and they were wearing like sheets or something of that sort. oh and there was this guy who dressed like a chick (how queer).
hmm the movie (from what i saw) was (''was'' is ''saw'' backwards ha ha) about a lady that was married when she was younger but then her hubby died or something and she became a widow. later on in life she met this one guy and i don't know she got a crush and he asked her to marry him but she thought she couldn't because she was a widow then she committed suicide..... hmm what are the odds of that. err .. then there was a little girl who was like sent to ''play'' wit this old guy.. ugh pretty messed up. eh and thats all i can remember.
the movie sounds pretty messed up but it was real good.

Water

The movie Water was a very emotional and educational film. It has the potential to touch your heart and teach you about other cultures. Its is and inspirational story that shows that women and men arent always treated as equals and that its not always fair. Women can over come and prove the importance of there freedom as individuals.

The story takes place in India in a time when widows were treated very badly. At any age they could be forced to live in a certain house where the widows lived only. They were not allowed to wear any colors or grow their hair long, most of them shaved there head bald. The widows were not allowed to re-marry or socialize with other people. It was thought of as a sin.

The main character is a 7 year old girl named Chuyia who's husband dies before they were married. Her parents send her to live in the house of widows where she is supposed to live out her live in purity. She then meets another widow named Kalyani who is in her 20's and befriends her without questions. Kalyani is considered the most beautiful of the widows because she is allowed to keep her long hair. She meets a man named Narayan and they fall in love and plan to marry against the wishes of their families. It turns into a conflict and Kalyani takes her own life. Chuyia is then sent off with Narayan to follow Gandhi and his beliefs.

I highly recommend this movie to everyone. I can change the way people value what they have and their freedom.
Sincerely, Jamie Richardson

Water

Water was an excellent foreign film. The story line was very intense and informing. It is the story of a little girl named Chuyio who is taken from her family at the age of seven, because of the death of her husband. When her husband dies she is taken and has her head shaved completely bald, she is given white robes and is sent to this home where she is left all alone. At first she doesn't like her new environment and is very rebellious, soon she seems to become comfortable with her new home. She becomes friends with a girl named Kalyani who has fallen in love with a man named Narayan. The fact that Kalyani is a widow makes the way she feels for Narayan a sin. Narayan wants her to become his wife and to the other widows this is completely absurd. Kalyani ends up leaving the widows home to marry Narayan, but when she goes to his house she finds out that his father is one of the men she had been prostituted out to. Kalyani is devastated and she ends up killing herself in the river, leaving Chuyio all alone with the widows. Now that Kalyani is gone Didi: the widow in charge of the house, decides that Chuyia is going to be the new "whore." Chuyia is raped and Shakuntala takes her to see Gandhi. She gives Chuyia to Narayan who is one the train with Gandhi. She wants Chuyia to have a better life and not have to live the way Shakuntala has had to live her whole life.

I think that this movie was absolutely fantastic. I don't usually like foreign films cause i hate reading subtitles but this movie grabbed my attention form the very beginning. This movie really opened my eyes to how some other parts of the world are so very different from where i am living today. I feel bad for the women who have to live like this. They don't know any better though, they have lived like they are living almost their whole entire lives so it is what they think is right. This movie makes me want to go out and try to change the world. I am so glad i got the opportunity to watch this inspiring movie. I would defiantly watch this movie again. I recommend this movie to anybody who is willing to learn new things and learn about extremist views.
I would give this movie 3 out of 4 stars.

Water

Water had many ups and downs. There is a little girl had found friends at the widows house. Her name was Chuyia. She was only 7 years when her husband died. She didn't really understand what the reason was for her going there. When she got there she had a hard time adjusting to the style of living with the other widows besides Kalyani.
Kalyani became a friend of hers.Kalyani was in her 20 and she was beautiful. She was the only widow to have long hair.the reason why she was the only one with long hair was because the mean lady (Didi) used her to get money for them by selling her body to her loves father. She had a puppy that no one knew about besides Chuyia, no one was to know about the puppy because every thinks it was a sin. She fell in love with a man named Narayan.
Narayan was about 25 maybe older. He was very smart and rich. He believed in Ganghi because he thought he was right about the way of life as he knew it. He was at first interested in Kalyani and then grew to love her. Then there was Didi. She was the top widow. Everything that was going on at the widow house was up to her and under her control. She sent Kalyani to Narayan's father many times for the money they needed for the rent.
Once Kalyani found out that one of her clients was Narayan's father, she could no longer marry him because she thought he would not love her anymore so she took a drastic turn in her life. She killed her self by drowning. So Didi was not a very nice lady she was very rude to every one. Didi lied and said that she was trust worthy and that she always keeps her promises that she makes. That was a lie, she lied to the little girl saying that "you will go home when you would like" but that did not happen instead she sent her to Narayans father to "play" with him.
But so far the movie was great it was sad to see what people have to go through and things they have to do with out a say in it.
But the ending was the worst part, really sad. but all in all it was good. The message we found behind this movie was " everything happens for a reason good or bad" after all Chuyia ended up leaving with Gandhi anyways.

WATER

Water was an inspiring film, it took place in India. I think that the director of this film was trying to say something in the film, like that we should all be treated equally for one. There were five main characters,Chuyia,Kalyani,Narayan,Didi the main lady, and Shakuntalia. My favorite character was Kalyani because she was very faithful and spiritual she stuck to what she bealived in even though it was not the best thing for her. She was a widow and showed her emotions in every way that they should have been showed. She helped out Chuyia out in anyway that she could and specially since she is so young she knew everything to do to make her happy even though the life style that they live in is not the best. I was very shocked at the way that the widows were living and still are living and how they got treated for not having a husband anymore. Its very powerful knowing that women go through this everyday and dont give up through all the thick and thin. It was also inspiring to know that men like Narayan still excist, cause all he wanted for her through out the whole movie was for her to be happy and to not be treated the way that she was being treated. Let me tell you didi the main lady was giving her to men to get paid and to get food because she was the youngest and most pretty off all the women, so Kalyani would go cause that is what she thought was right, Narayan wanted her to love him and to get out of the style that she was living in, but to her she was already a widow and in her religion she could not be with someone agian. And its sad cause you could tell she loved him but thought it was not right to love him. The ending was very well played it left you wondering, i do recommend this movie i think that it is a very powerful movie specially for women.

WATER

WATER is a great movie. This movie was filmed in india in a small village filled with married people and a little house with widows. This movie to me was very sad and it also filled me up with anger . At the beggining of the movie I did not know what was going on because everything was normal. I just saw a little happy girl with her family and a old man laying down in a chair looking really old and sick. I thought that was her grandpa or even her dad.

As soon as i started getting into the movie i found out that the old man was the little girl's husband. The little girl's name is Chuyia. she looks like she was 8 years old. When Chuyia got home she did not know why the old guy was shaving her head bald so her dad came to her and told her she had become a widow and she didn't react to nothing because she didn't know what would happen to her . Once they got Chuyia ready to go they took her to the widows house and her dad just sat down talking to her waiting for one of the widows to take her inside.

One of the widows came to get her and Chuyia got very scared yelling at her father why are they taking her but her father just left her behind. Chuyia got introduced to everybody in the house the main lady Didi asked her to go set on her lap and chuyia did and diddy told chuyia something she did not want to hear so chuya bit diddy on the leg and started running so right there i knew more about chuyia. She liked to bite and she was very playful and a curious little girl.

Chuyia met a young pretty lady named kalyani. She looks like she was around her 20's kalyani was the only widow with long pretty hair and she had a good kind heart and she started to be chuyias friend.

Kalyani and cuyia are the main characters and thats why I wanted to write about them and also a little bit of what happend in the movie.what i thought about this movie was very sad at the end and some parts of the movie I have to admit that i got really mad of there culture just because I think widows should be treated the same or at least be given good food everyday and a good nice house. The reason why I am saying this is because they didnt do nothing bad to deserve all the bad things they have to live with . It wasnt there fault there husbands had to die.

Although I do think the movie was great and it took all my attention and I was all in to that movie that even when mrs shule had to turn it off i would get mad! I recomend everyone to watch this movie. It will have your attention and have you filled up with lots of emotions. Its a great movie.

Water: Widows in India

Water was an amazing movie to watch. I was personally riveted by the plot, I had no idea that it was so hard to be a widow in India. I learned a bunch of new things. I also loved the characters, to me, they seemed extremely real and their emotions seemed highly realistic. Chuyia seemed like a real kid . She showed her emotions in a very realistic way. She acted out and isolated herself. she obviously favored Kaliyani for various reasons. Shes 7 years old and she had already been married to a old man who passed. Her parents drop her off at the widows house and she seems very confused. As Chuyia and Kaliyani are out bathing to purify themselves and their pet, Chuyia runs into Narayan. He helps her back to find Kaliyani and a spark seems to ignite between Narayan and Kaliyani. Or at least it Narayan is very interested in Kaliyani.
As you get sucked into the movie some sad facts are brought to your attention. The first is that Didi ( the main leader of the widows in that house) sells one of the widows that is young, beautiful and different from others, to make money. She has a friend who is the "Pimp" and sells her. She uses manipulation, guilt and many other things, to force these women to do this for her. The second thing that you learn is that there is a law that says widows are aloud to remarry, a very good thing, but no one knows about it because they only pay attention to laws that will be helpful for all. Sadly no one cared enough to teach people of this law. Kaliyani and Narayan plan to wed and a tragedy occurs, causing depression to Chuyia. Her guard is down and she is manipulated by Didi. Very sad indeed. The ending to this movie is sad but it makes you think. I thought that it even showed the message to the movie very strongly.
Now, what I feel the message for this movie was, to trust your conscience and to follow your instincts. also what i got from the movie was to, honestly, trust yourself and you'll never let yourself down. It was ,honestly, a hard film to watch towards the end. Not because it wasnt a good film but because not only dose it deal with horrible things that widows have to go through in India but what women and men all over the world have to deal with. A subject that is very heartfelt and quite a tear jerker. That subject is rape. Even worse the rape of a child.

I absolutely loved this film. I dont normally like foreign films but this one way very amazing. I would give it 5 stars.

Water.

Water was a very intense movie. It had a mix of thrill and anxiety with romance.
The movie takes place in India back in 1938.
It's a touching story of the life of the widows and one man who breaks the rules
and changes a life.
There are 5 main characters in this movie, the main characters are;
Chuyia, who is a 7 year old widow who ends up having her life drastically changed as a child.
Chuyia feels abandoned when her parents leave her at the house of widows.
It's a hard life and poor Chuyia is stuck with it as a child.
from then on her life is controlled by Diti, a horrid, rude woman who is in charge of the widows.
Then we have Kalyani is a beautiful young woman who helps Chuyia, but she also has duties as a widow which she wishes she did not have to do. The duties that she is forced to do disgraces herself and makes her feel shameful because it is not who she is inside.

This movie really touched me, it really makes you think and appreciate things.
This isn't the most cheerful movie, but it has a lot of meaning and fulfillment.
Water was an amazing film that i would recommend to all the women i know.
At times this movie made me angry and frustrated but it also made me joyful and delighted.

I would watch this movie again in a heart beat.
It was fantastic!
It represents hope, faith and dreams.

"Keep your heart open to dreams. For as long as there's a dream, there is hope.
And as long as there is hope, there is joy in living."

Water Movie Review; Brooke and Natalia

Deepa Mahta's movie Water was a very interesting movie.
Water's main purpose was to show how people in India live their life and what type of things Indian girls and women go through just to show respect to their family, religion, and tradition.
In the movie it brings up a lot about Gandhi and what he believed in was right or wrong, he is a very powerful man.
Water presses onto the viewers how much is expected of women in daily life, tradition is that when you are born or even before birth you have an assigned marriage by your family's choice, and you may not even know them but, you wear two red bangles until official marriage.
When or if your husbands die you are sent to a widows home and are cursed to hell.
If you are to bump into any untainted married women or men they have been cursed by you and shall bath in the holy water.
Chuyia, the main character, only 7 years old is a very strong leader in the movie, and stubborn aswell.
Kalyani, the second main character, she is also a widow but, Didi, the elder of the widows housing, keeps Kalyani's hair long to send her across the river to go meet "clients" for money.
Narayan. about in his late 20's early 30's, is a very important character, he brings Kalyani out of the widows housing and they fall in love and are to be RE-married and be together for ever.

In our opinion, the movie Water is alright, but it's not what was expected because we feel as if Kalyani should have lived, the movie had a good story line and brought up a lot of good main points but, the beggining was good, middle and end was sort of good until the very ending where Kalyani died.

The movie was rated at 4 stars we'd give it about 3 stars.
Water was an excellent film.
